For experienced coffee brewers: How many 8 oz cups of coffee can be brewed from 1lb of ground coffee beans?
I am sepcifically interested in feedback from anyone who has worked in a coffeehouse such as Starbucks, Tully's, Peet's. Please indicate if you have that experience. Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
The Starbucks "standard" for brewing coffee is two tablespoons of ground coffee per six fluid ounces of water. Starbucks says that they is 45 cups per 1 lb bag.

But for even me, that's waaaaay too strong. I use about one tablespoon for two cups.

The few of you, who still do not know, coffee has its roots somewhere in the 9th century. It is said that the energy booster was accidently discovered by a shepherd somewhere in the Ethiopian highlands and it was only a matter of time till it spread to remote countries such as Turkey and some areas in Africa. It took another hundred years till the miracle berries got back to Europe courtesy of the Dutch smugglers.

What is really important is to emphasize the impact of these strange red berries on our life and how else could we achieve this if not by focusing on coffee makers. Without these kitchen appliances, coffee wouldn't be anything else than some raw material. In other words, you cannot speak about the principle of locomotion purely referring to petrol; human kind needs something to extract the energy particles. Coffee makers are far simpler in design as compared to engines and this is why they come to be used more often. What we want to underline is that the number of those having a coffee maker is bigger than the number of the people who own a car. The bottom point is that there is hardly any household without a coffee maker.

According to the statistics, coffee is the most beloved beverage of people. In order to stress the importance of coffee (and coffee makers) we ask you to think of possible substitutes. Practically all you have to do is to find another beverage that can give people the same necessary boost as the coffee. It might happen that you stumble upon some miraculous drink, but in the long run nothing will manage to equal the results of sipping a cup of coffee.

People have become more and more demanding when speaking of sipping a cup of coffee and as a result coffee makers are more and more popular. It all started when the people were fed up with old coffee brewing processes. There is hardly anyone who still needs to boil water in two separate containers. The same applies for having to take care of the coffee maker, most standard appliances brew hot and tasty coffee automatically. If these arguments are not enough to understand the crucial importance of coffee in our life, then just think of the 5 most important kitchen appliances and you'll soon realize.

Could it be true that today's modern society cannot cope with the contemporary lifestyle without the coffee maker? Could it mean that today's society cannot live without this beverage? Whatever the question, the answer is yes.  Yes the people have got accustomed with the morning ritual of sipping a cup of coffee and yes it is the people who have created a special aura around what was initially known as red berries. People from around the world have contributed to what we know as coffee culture.

Whenever we say culture, we refer to a system of knowledge that is shared by different groups of people.  The knowledge of brewing coffee is an ancient one as you have seen right at the beginning, a knowledge that has spread itself around the globe. It is just miraculous how the small red berry has conquered the entire Globe, how it became number one beverage and how it still influences our way of perceiving the world around us.

The market will always be open for revolutionary coffee maker models because in this way the people will show their appreciation towards the small berry and towards its culture.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
What coffee machine do i need to make Starbucks coffee?
I want to buy my boyfriend a coffee machine for his birthday but have no idea about coffee myself so don't know which one to buy. I have bought him a bag of Starbuck's house blend beans, what type of machine would i need to buy to make this???
I want to buy my boyfriend a coffee machine for his birthday but have no idea about coffee myself so don't know which one to buy. I have bought him a bag of Starbuck's house blend beans, what type of machine would i need to buy to make this??? i.e. filter, cafetiere?

    • ANSWER:
Coffee machines don't care what brand of bean you use, they'll brew them all.
      What's your price range?
An espresso machine can cost anywhere between 0 to 0 (they go higher but aren't particularly better at making coffees) and brews espresso (30mL concentrated coffee), which is what Starbucks makes its coffees with. Make sure the beans are ground finely.
You could also use a french press/plunger, which produces about 200mL of diluted black coffee. The beans should be coarsely ground (costs around )
Or, you could use a stove top/moka pot, which produces around 50mL espresso. The beans should be finely ground. Costs -.
If you want frothed/steamed milk, and espresso machine will have a steam wand attachment for that, while you'll have to get a hand-held frother for the stove top. the plunger isn't really suitable for foamed milk.
      Hope I've helped!!

  2. QUESTION:
How do I make coffee in an American machine?
Hi, this will seem very silly to many of you, but I'm an Aussie girl staying in a US hotel and I have NO IDEA how you work a drip coffee machine. Would somebody have the time to help me? It seems to be the standard one I've seen in your movies - heat at the base, pyrex clear container above that, then a plastic container. I have figured out that water goes down when I put it together, but do I need to heat the water beforehand? Where is the coffe packet supposed to go? I'm lost. We use plungers or espresso machines at home.

    • ANSWER:
You're fine. You poured the water correctly. Coffee packet goes into the filter slot. It should open. Then make sure it's plugged in and press the button to brew. Once you do a red/orange light turns on and turns off when done. Call front desk if you still need help. The water automatically heats and drips.

  3. QUESTION:
What are the best online resources on buying a coffee machine?
My current coffee machine works well but it's stained and looks yucky so I need a new one. I need to find sites that have reviews of coffee machines and also sites where I can find the machine I want for cheap.. lol

    Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
      Go through Gavalia.com

They offer free coffee pots with an order of their coffee. Good coffee and many flavors to choose from. We have been using ours now for years without it skipping a beat. Plus it has a clock and you can set it to brew when you want.

Right now they have a 12 cup stainless steel coffee maker free for trying their coffee. Once you get ti and you choose not to order more cancle your subscription with them.

  4. QUESTION:
How do you properly clean a coffee machine?
Yesterday I decided to do my husband a favour and clean the coffee machine with vinegar. I thought by running two full carafes of water through it afterwards it would remove all the vinegar taste but apparantly the first batch of coffee tasted awful and had to be thrown out. Uh oh. I've put four more carafes of water through this morning. Now the water tastes fine to me. What do I do next? What should I do next time?
    Thanks in advance.

    • ANSWER:
Use a vinegar/water rinse, then run fresh water through it. I have a self cleaning coffee maker, but I still do this at least once a month because if I don't, the coffee starts getting a really nasty flavor to it. You did good!!! Really! But next time, do a vinegar/water rinse. It'll help. I've done the same thing on several occassions. There have been many a pot of coffee that have been thrown out in this house! So, you did good!

  5. QUESTION:
What is the water level required to make coffee in Delonghi Otello coffee machine?
Someone passed on to me a Delonghi Otello coffee, espresso and cappuccino machine. I have the manual which has precise steps to create cappuccinos with unit measurements. These unit measurements are according to the espresso pot that comes with the machine. I however do not have the small pot to create coffee.

Does anyone know how much in milliliters (mL) is the two unit measurement of the small coffee pot? And the four unit measurement?

    Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
the maximum measurement for 4 shot is 250 mL

you may use less to your own taste, but more will over fill the boiler

Equipment Lease Tips For A Restaurant Business

Author: Lai Castillo

If you are planning to get into a restaurant business, one of the biggest challenges you will face is equipment financing. Setting up your own restaurant demands a considerable amount of cash. For one, you need to invest on restaurant equipment such as stoves, grills, gas range, freezers, tables, seats, cash register, credit card machines, computer, etc. Think about how much start-up capital you will need to be able to buy all the necessary equipment and furnishing.

True, you can apply for a business loan, but if you spend all money on equipment alone, there may not be much left for other expenses such as marketing, supplies, and hiring workers. Is there an alternative financing option for aspiring restaurateurs? Rather than purchasing all the equipment and furnishing your business needs, why not consider business equipment lease financing?

Here are equipment lease tips that are especially for restaurant business owners:

Make Sure It's NSF Approved. If you are going to lease kitchen gadgets like blenders, mixers, refrigerators, coolers, etc. you need to make sure that the devices all has the NSF (National Sanitation Foundation) Sticker. Commercial kitchen appliances that do not have an NSF Sticker may cost you levies and fines once your local health department conducts sanitary inspection.

Avoid Overbuying. With all the excitement of starting a business and having a restaurant place, some entrepreneurs may be overspending by taking on too many gadgets or equipment. Before ordering equipment to be leased, you should be realistic about your needs and consider your budget and the space.

Follow Local Regulations. You should know that there are specific regulations in furnishing a commercial kitchen. Before submitting your equipment lease application, make inquiries from your local health department, fire inspector, building inspector, and city zoning about the specific rules in furnishing a restaurant business.

Shop around. Compare and contrast proposals from various business equipment lease companies. Take a closer look at the prices along with the Terms and Conditions of the lessor.  Besides the equipment, will installation and maintenance services be provided as well? Can you expect a reliable customer service?

Analyze your lease contract. Never sign up for an equipment lease without examining all the stipulations in your contract. If you are not careful, you could get stuck with a bad lease and may not have much choice but to wait until your lease term ends.

Check your rating. Some commercial restaurant equipment leasing providers only grant approval to clients with good to excellent credit history. If you have bad credit, your application may get declined or you may be given high rates. Thus, it is advisable to check your credit report first before submitting your lease application. If you have good credit rating, you will be in much better position to negotiate for a lower interest rate or a more flexible repayment term.

Get free lease product distributors. Some product distributors do offer a free lease If you make them your official supplier. For instance, if you offer coffee and beverage in your restaurant, find a distributor that will provide you with a coffee maker or a freezer at no extra cost.

Any ideas about the cost ???

    thanks

    • ANSWER:
Personlally if this were my question I would ask the coffee vendors themselves. Find the vendors who supply coffee and ask them. Try to cut a deal if you really need them to supply the machines.

It has been many years for me since I have been in the food service business but in every case I have personally come across the restaurant owned the the machines and they were purchased from equipment suppliers not food vendors.

Top 5 Coffee Makers

Author: Malcolm Bill

Coffee Makers are those shiny, heavy machines that can transform coffee grinds and milk into Australia's favourite drink. I think everyone would love one of these appliances on their kitchen bench. But before you go ahead and part with the money, you have to decide which machine best suits your needs. Obviously your budget is going to impact on your choice and then you have to consider how involved in the coffee process you really want to be.

There are two major points to consider before you buy a coffee maker.

Budget - there are coffee makers to suit every budget. Granted you won't get an automatic machine for under 0, more likely you will have to choose from percolators or French press coffee makers. Once you do you wander into the automatic range you will notice there is a huge range of prices and brands available.

Level of Involvement - just how much you want to be involved will affect greatly your choice of machine. Some machines will do it all for you, and some will let you make your very own cup just like in a cafA©.

Here are 5 Great Coffee Machines to suit all needs and budgets;

  1. SUNBEAM PC4700 AROMA COFFEE DIGITAL 12 Digital

This is the least money you can part with and still have a pretty decent coffee in your own home. The Sunbeam is more or less a percolator, but it has a high pressure (15 bar, like a domestic coffee machine) pump and an Italian designed 'Crema System' that will deliver perfect coffee for just over .

BIRKO COFFEE PERCOLATOR 20lt

This massive percolator can make up to 100 cups of quality coffee and is ideal for people who entertain a lot or perhaps organisations or businesses who need to provide morning and afternoon teas for many people. With functions that ensure perfect temperature and brewing, you cannot go wrong with this machine. This would be the best percolator available from a domestic range, with a price tag to match.

DELONGHI EN165B CITIZ NESPRESSO COFFEE MACHINE

This stylish looking machine, with vintage design elements is a fully automated coffee maker. You don't need to worry about buying beans or grinding coffee or steaming your milk this machine will do it all for you. With a very high pressure pump of 19 bar, this Delonghi will produce cafA© quality crema on your coffees. With autmomatic capsule ejection, there is no need for fiddly cleaning or replacing coffee stock. Sitting on the higher end of the price bracket, this model comes in single or double cup versions.

SUNBEAM EM4800C CAFE CREMA COFFEE MAKER

Sunbeam, as with all of their appliances, have machines on all ranges of the spectrum. This one is a compact, classic style coffee machine. With a standard 15 bar pump, you will get great, cafA© like quality crema and will be able to steam your own milk like a pro at home.

GAGGIA CLASSIC

The Gaggia Classic is exactly that - a classic. This machine has been on the market well before coffee making at home became a popular past time. With a classic, simple design that has not changed since it first came on the market, you can choose from brushed stainless steel, a warmer brass or the polished stainless steel.

This machine, while having the standard 15 bar pump, will make cafA© quality coffee with it's excellent design and performance. This machine is heavy, which makes it perfect for ease of use as you will soon discover when you are making own coffees at home.

Although coffee makers are available in most department stores or specialty coffee shops, you can also get some great bargains when shopping for appliances online.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
How to use a braun coffee maker machine?
    hey everyone

this is so funny..im a big fan of coffee and i always wanted a coffee maker so my friends got me a braun coffee maker machine for my birthday anyways...

i need to know how to best use it? i mean shall i change the filter and coffee every time i make a new pot or is it ok to use it more than once??

i would really appreciate anyone that can help

    • ANSWER:
Use fresh coffee and a clean filter for every pot.

      Don

  2. QUESTION:
I see oily film that comes out of my coffee maker. Machine is clean. Is drinking this coffee unhealthy?
Some days the "oil" at the surface of the cup is more obvious. Today I could see the oil streaming through the coffee as I poured it from the pot into my cup. I've read about diterpenes and such, but I don't know if the visible oily film is this and most importantly whether it is unhealthy to consume coffee like this?
The coffee is a preground store bought type (like Starbucks) and made through a standard drip coffee machine with filter.

    • ANSWER:
Coffee is basically extraction of the oils of the coffee bean so I believe it's probably natural. You could always soak the pot and all in vinegar.

  3. QUESTION:
Can I put sugar in a coffee maker machine?
Just wondered if I could do this to save time! When I add the filter coffee into the top bit, can I put the sugar in their too? Or will this damage the machine?
Thanks, I thought it probably would. Great idea about putting it in the bottom of the pot - I never thought of that (duh!).

    Question answered cheers :o )

    • ANSWER:
I wouldn't do it. It will make your basket and all the attaching plastic hardware sticky and hard to clean. Plus the drain hole will get clogged when the sugar/water dries. Why not just add the sugar to the pot before the coffee drains into it?

  4. QUESTION:
Do coffee makers boil the water or just make it really hot but not boiling?
I'm just wondering if coffee makers actually boil water. I don't have access to a stove or have a water boiler in hand and use my coffee maker to boil water.

What I want to know is, do the water in coffee maker machines actually boil water or just heat it up really hot but not to boiling point.

    • ANSWER:
No, they do not boil water since coffee is not supposed to be made with boiling water.

  5. QUESTION:
    I want to get a coffee machine/maker?
I want to get a coffee machine for my dorm room. If i get a filter coffee machine, what cofee can i use? Instant? Proper? Also, im a fan of espresso in the morning but i cant seem to find a machine, separate or combined with the normal maker, for less than about £50. Being a student, im not that rich. At the moment i have a caffetierre and just use cofee beans and a bean blender. Could i use blended beans in a filter coffee machine?

    ThanklSS11

    • ANSWER:
First of all, you can't make espresso with any machine that cheap, although you can make it without a machine; you could use an electric Moka pot to save $$ & space (see link 1).

Now, you don't use instant coffee in any device. It's just added to hot water in a cup. Besides, it sucks and should be avoided.

If you want a great coffee here are 2 simple (relatively cheap) ways to make it in a dorm.
First buy an electric kettle (link2). I use the linked model. Whatever you buy, make sure the coils aren't inside the kettle (it will be a bi*** to clean).
Next you can get a french press (link 3) to make delicious coffee without the need for filters. It's also useful for making delicious loose-leaf tea. That, or you can buy a Chemex (link 4) manual drip filtered coffee maker. The biggest weakness of machines is they rarely ever get hot enough to properly brew coffee.

I have six ways to make coffee. These are just some of them, and they make very delicious coffees.

How To Use A Coffee Machine

Author: Jennifer Seaton

Coffee machines that aren't clean properly will surely experience problems in the future. One method that should be done regularly is descaling which is a term that enables the user to remove lime that may cause damage to either the boiler or the pump.

Normally, descaling instructions can be found in the user's manual that came with the appliance. If the instructions are unclear, here is some information that the owner will find useful.

Descaling should only be done when the coffee machine is cold. It should be turned off and unplugged for a few hours if it was just used so no one will get burned by performing this chore.

Water isn't sufficient to remove the lime. People shouldn't use vinegar but instead try a citric acid solution. This should be mixed with the water and when it is ready, it is time to pour into the water container.

This is the time the coffee machine is turned on. The user should then pump water out of the nozzle for 20 to 30 seconds before switching it off. Not all models have this function so those who don't will have to pump this through the group handle.

It usually takes about 10 minutes for the lime to dissolve. The procedure should be done again so that the remaining liquid content in the container is pumped out. The entire process of descaling usually takes about an hour since it is done 4 or 5 times.

While waiting for a few minutes to pass, the person can work on other things to keep the coffee machine in good condition. This includes washing some of the parts in warm water while wiping the others with a dry piece of cloth. This will surely remove the stains that accumulated due to the many occasions that it has been used.

The last part of descaling is making a fresh cup of coffee and then throwing it out. This may sound silly since the person won't even take a sip but this is part of the process to ensure all the lime has been removed and the machine is as good as new.

After all the hard work, you can relax and make another cup. The taste should be like when this was first purchased from the appliance store until next month when this chore has to be repeated.

  1. QUESTION:
I'm looking for a coffee maker with a dispenser in it?
I visited someone once who had a coffee maker with no coffee pot; it had a dispenser in it just like a coffee machine in a convenience store. I think it was black and grey, and instead of a coffee pot, it had like a reservoir bucket or something that she changed? I'm pretty sure it was a common name brand, and it held 12 cups of coffee like a normal coffee pot. Can anyone give me the brand and model of this coffee maker? I've done searches online but I'm not finding anything similar? Thanks in advance!
Thanks Kaylinda, but that's not it. The Coffee urns look more like something you'd see at a potluck or a Church supper. I'm thinking of something that's plastic and costs at Walmart. I'm wondering if it's Mr. Coffee or Black and Decker?

take down the name, make, and model number then call or write the company that produced the machine and they will tell you what product to buy or what could be substituted in its place.
some times you could find the phone numbers on the web if you have the name of the company that made the product not only the serial number that doesn't always help you need both.
i tried to research it for you but some of the information was not given so i could not complete my search.

  3. QUESTION:
    Which Commercial coffee Machine?
    Hi

I run a pub in country village and have done so for near three years. We have served coffee in individual cafetierres up until now.

I have had a lot more people ask for cappucino's, esspreso etc. of recent and am thinking of buying a half descent machine.

My question to you is which one ?

I guess I would like a 2 dispenser one and one that is mains and water mounted.

Budget I am thinking £1500 inc VAT and installation..

Help me please...brand, style etc, all your help is appreciated

    • ANSWER:
      This is the best site:

      http://www.caffesociety.co.uk

  4. QUESTION:
Best way to clean a one-hand dispenser coffee maker?
We have a coffee maker which allows you to dispense coffee one cup at a time - there's a tab that you push your cup against and the coffee comes out, like a fountain drink machine. Lately, when we dispense the coffee, the coffee "stream" isn't consistent - it goes towards the back of the cup and all over the counter :(

I've tried cleaning it out with vinegar - and it's worked a few times - but then, it goes back to that uneven pouring...and it's driving me nuts!

Has anyone used this type of coffee maker before? And has this happened to you? And how did you clean it?

PS. It's a Hamilton Beach Brew Station

    • ANSWER:
Run some white vinegar through, and rinse well. Run clean water through several times.=)

  5. QUESTION:
If my company provides free coffee, does it have to be accessible to all employees?
My office has added more office space in a separate suite in the same building. While this includes a break room, they are not putting any amenities into the break room. The main office suite has filtered hot/cold water dispensers, two refrigerators and two microwaves, and a coffee machine.

They don't want to add any of this to the new suite, saying that the employees moving into the new suite can simply come over to the original in order to store their lunches and get coffee in the morning, retrieve and heat their lunches, and so on. There is no interior hallway between the two suites, so getting a cup of coffee involves going outside (in Arizona, so it can be over 110°), and having to pass through three security doors.

The original suite also has private bathrooms, but the new suite shares communal bathrooms with the rest of the building... getting to which ALSO require going outside.

There's probably not much they can do about the bathrooms, but is it fair (or legal) of them to not allow us to store and heat our lunches in our own break room?
Added: I hadn't even noticed that I was on Yahoo-UK/Ireland. I'd gotten here through a long, circuitous route through various sites, and found a question/answer that seemed somewhat related. When it wasn't very helpful, I posted my own. I didn't even realize I wasn't on "my" Yahoo.

But now, at least I know why the spell-check wants me to change "realize" to "realise." (It will have to live with the disappointment, though.)

    • ANSWER:
There is no legal obligation on the company's part to provide the new suite's break room with amenities. It's rather cheap of them not to do so, but they don't have to. Why exactly do you have to exit the building to access the restrooms in the building ?? I don't quite get that part. You say the suites are in the same building. Sounds like a poorly designed building to me.

It may not be fair, but it's not illegal either. There's the old phrase "If you don't like it, leave it."
      --------------
It's also interesting to me that your question originates from Yahoo United Kingdom, yet you are asking about Arizona USA . . .

Why Coffee Pods are the Best Coffee Solution for the Office

Author: Stephanie Larkin

Many employers often wonder what their employees want, besides a raise of course. The answer might be surprising. A number of Fortune 500 companies have discovered that one of the most treasured perks they provide for their employees is something they might never expect - coffee! A break room well-stocked with a variety of coffees and other beverages is high on the list of perks that employees are looking for. More and more employers are finding that the very best way to give their employees something they will enjoy is by bringing coffee pods into the employee break room.

Coffee pods first made their appearance on the market about a decade ago. At the time, they were expensive and there were few varieties available. The critics were not kind about the coffee either, but all that has changed. Today, coffee machines that use coffee pods are among the most popular office coffee machines on the market, and with good reason. Why choose coffee pods for your office break room? Take a look at what some of the best makers of single serve coffee makers with coffee pods offer your office.

Consistently Good Coffee

Previously, many workers felt 'office coffee' was synonymous with mud. No matter how good the coffee you started with, it soon turned into oily black sludge. That was partly because the pot inevitably sat on the burner and scorched the coffee, and partly because the machine just didn't get cleaned often enough. With coffee pods, those issues are grievances of the past. Each pod is pre-measured with the precise amount of coffee, tea or cocoa to make one perfect cup at a time. Also, because you are only making one cup at a time, there's no coffee to turn to burnt sludge in the bottom of the pot. The coffee maker does not pick up all the oils from the brewing process either, meaning that you get fresh, clean coffee every time around.

Easy Cleanup

Coffee pods also mean no more messy drips and grounds on the counter of the break room. The coffee grounds are completely contained in the pod. When the coffee is done, you just eject the pod and throw it away. Your coffee room will stay clean, making it a more inviting place for your workers to brainstorm and work together.

Save Money

When the best coffee in town is right there in the break room, your employees are far less likely to wander off looking for a coffee shop. More time at the office and less time spent standing in line waiting for a cappuccino at the local shop is good news for you. Your employees will be happier and more productive. At the same time, they will be saving money on all those specialty coffees bought over the counter. Even if you decide to establish a coffee fund, they will be paying far less per cup for coffee pods at the office than they will for a paper takeaway cup from the local shop.

Everyone gets what they like!

One of the best things about replacing the office coffee pot with a single cup brewer and a coffee pod system is the selection of beverages available in coffee pods. With selections of coffee ranging from light breakfast blends to full-bodied espressos, everyone in your office can have the style and flavor of coffee that they like best. Coffee enthusiasts can find flavored coffees among varieties such as vanilla, hazelnut, mocha and even blueberry. Even better, most of the single serve coffee systems that use coffee pods are not confined to just making coffee. Depending on the supplier you choose, you may be able to also receive an assortment of flavored teas and gourmet hot chocolate drinks as well.

The Best Coffees Available

As single cup coffee makers have gained acceptance and popularity, the selection of coffees available in coffee pods for brewing has grown exponentially. The biggest reason for that is the number of nationally known fine coffee roasters who have jumped on the bandwagon to offer a variety of their coffees in pod form so that you can enjoy the same coffees that you love at the coffee shop. Among the coffee roasters who now offer their coffee in pods are Seattle's Best, Starbucks, Melitta and Baronet. Java One offers a wide variety of coffee blends, and Senseo, makers of the Senseo single serve coffee system offers their own line of a dozen different coffee varieties that range from a light, tart Brazilian that will please most American palates to their latest gourmet offering, a rich, sweet, dark coffee appropriately named CafA© Noir, with just a hint of chocolate in the finish.

Your office staff will appreciate the investment in a coffee pod brewing system. A coffee pod system can pay for itself in happier workers and increased productivity, and your staff just may vote you supervisor of the year.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
What's better for office coffee, one of those airpot coffee makers, or the traditional glass pot?
I'm considering changing the glass pots we currently use in my office to the airpots. I'm told the airpots are cheaper per cup of coffee, and won't produce burnt coffee. However I also hear the traditional glass pots are MUCH easier to clean. Open to all opinions to help me make this decision.

    • ANSWER:
Big office ? It may be more cost effective to go with the airpots.

Smaller office and heavy drinkers- stick with the glass - Cheaper to buy.

Air pots are great because they allow the brewed coffee to maintain its flavor /heat for a maximum part of the work day without being on a warmer/burner.

Glass pots cannot maintain the heat unless on the warmer which will cause the coffee to take on that burnt coffee taste. Glass Coffee pots /brewing systems are designed to keep coffee at that Brewed Fresh Taste for 30-45 min Only .

If you have a quick turnover then stay with the glass pot system you already have.

  2. QUESTION:
    Office Coffee?
How much water do you add to your office coffee maker for a 2.5oz bag of coffee grounds? We got a new pour over coffee maker for the office and we don't know how much water to add! No - we are not blondes :) )

    • ANSWER:
try 10 cups of water. base on taste add/subt. as needed

  3. QUESTION:
Office Coffee Maker: Can you draw hot water from the tap during the brewing period?
This is a huge source of debate in my office. We have a Bunn office coffee maker, the kind that is hooked up to the water line (you don't have to fill it). Whenever coffee is brewing, everyone says you CANNOT draw any water from the hot water tap on the front of the machine. Is this true? Why wouldn't you be able to brew coffee and still get water from the tap? I could understand if you had to fill the water yourself and maybe there is a finite amount of water needed for the pot but it doesn't make sense that a commercial coffee maker couldn't handle that?

    • ANSWER:
Yes, you would be able to get hot water any time. Some people insist that the water from the tap won't be quite as hot while coffee is brewing, but I have yet to find that this is true.

Go ahead and get your water from the tap...I guarantee that you will find out that you will come out the winner in this debate.

  5. QUESTION:
Best Coffee Maker For My Small Office?
Wondering what is the best coffee maker to buy for my department, 4-5 people office.

    • ANSWER:
Hmm, 4-5 people huh? Anyway, maybe 10-12 cup coffee maker is what you are looking for. You can brew less or many cups depend on how many people in your office.

Currently the coffee maker in my office is Cuisinart DCC-1200 12-Cup coffee maker even though we only have 3 people in my office. I have used many coffee makers before, I can safely said this is the best. Well, check it out the source for more information then.

Coffee shop in the office

Author: Maria Gini

Heading to the local coffee shop for coffee and snacks is now a thing of the past. With the advent of the office vending machine dispensing anything from eatables to beverages, businesses have found a solution to keeping their staff in the office. There are machines for snacks, hot and cold beverages or a combination.

Coffee, the most sought after beverage in the office, is something that has become a staple during working hours. One of the most difficult decisions an office has to make while buying an office coffee machine is whether to buy one that uses instant coffee or one that grinds coffee beans to prepare the drink, also known as the bean-to-cup vending machine. It depends on a lot of things but basically the cost of vending machine and ingredients, taste, maintenance and the time taken to prepare the coffee.

There will be a difference in the cost of instant and coffee beans machine because the electronics and hardware required to grind the coffee beans and make coffee is specialized compared to the instant coffee machines. But it would be worth the cost. There is nothing like the aroma of freshly ground and brewed coffee!!!! The cost of the ingredients too would be sizeable.

As regards the taste, the taste of instant coffee will differ from the bean-to-cup machine. The ground coffee would be stronger and bitterer than the instant coffee which for someone not used to the taste can be quite unpalatable. The time taken to prepare instant coffee is much lesser than the bean coffee.

Kenco Local Business Service supply office coffee machines suitable for every kind of environment. They supply automatic coffee vending machines, filter coffee machines and table top vending machines. You can select from a range of coffee machines that offer drinks made from freshly ground beans to coffee machines that offer fast dispense drinks made from soluble ingredients. And their products are easy to use and maintain.

So if your staff is frequenting the local coffee shop at coffee breaks or for lunch, setting up an office vending machine for their coffee and snacks would make them believe that they are more important than paper clips.

  5. QUESTION:
Could you justify paying that much for it?
I've seen a coffee machine that I'm in love with! However it's £149; I'm 19 and live with two of my friends, we all drink alot of coffee and use the coffee machine we have now all the time.
I earn enough money to pay all my bills, pay the rent, do the shopping etc.. And buy the coffee machine AND go out at the weekend. But I do think its alot of money, it's a well known make and has lots of features and settings. Would you pay that for a coffee machine?

    • ANSWER:
You get what you pay for with coffee machines:) ... I have a DeLonghi Magnifica 3300 espresso machine which cost me about 0 (actually closer to 00 retail - but I got mine NEW in box on eBay); and it was well worth every cent! I also have a great Cuisinart which brews into a thermal pot (keeps it hot for 8 hours) and that cost me about (new in box on eBay); which was less than half the retail value..... Check UK eBay for the exact machine that you want. You can probably find it cheaper there! .... But, if you're a real coffee drinker, definitely pay the money for a GOOD coffee machine. If you get cheap ones (like Mr. Coffee), it's a waste of good coffee beans, and you'll be getting replacements for that machine soon anyways
